Several hundred attend demo on Wenceslas Square in support of Ukraine
Several hundred people attended a demonstration in Prague's Wenceslas Square in support of Ukraine on Saturday late afternoon. The two-hour event, which started at 4pm, was held on the occasion of Defenders Day, which is a public holiday in Ukraine honouring veterans and fallen members of the Ukrainian armed forces that takes place annually on 14 October.
Participants carried the flags of Ukraine, the EU and NATO as well as banners with slogans such as "Let's unite with the EU" and "Russia is a terrorist state". A number of speakers thanked the Czech Republic for its ongoing support of Ukraine and called for continued arms deliveries to the country. At the end of the demonstration, they formed a circle around the statue of St. Wenceslas and shouted slogans such as Glory to Ukraine and sang the Ukrainian and Czech national anthems.
Similar events are taking place on Sunday in over 70 other cities in various countries.
