Sale of e-vignettes for cars goes ahead despite complications

Electronic vignettes for highway travel began selling on Tuesday on the website edalnice.cz, Czech Television reports. Physical vignettes can still be purchased at EuroOil gas stations and at post offices.

The site was only launched in the afternoon, because it ran into complications earlier in the day and had to be taken down. This seeming lack of efficiency was criticised by opposition parties and even Foreign Minister Tomáš Petříček, who tweeted that he hopes Transport Minister Havlíček will be able to explain the problems.

Mr. Havlíček said the complications may have been the result of a high number of unique visits. However, Jan Paroubek, the director of Cendis, which designed the site, later admitted the problem may lie in the system itself.
