Czech Republic marks 80th anniversary of Heydrich assassination
The Czech Republic is marking the 80th anniversary of Operation Anthropoid this Friday, May 27. The assassination of the acting Reichsprotector of Bohemia and Moravia Reinhard Heydrich by parachutists Jozef Gabčík and Jan Kubiš is seen as one of the greatest successes of the Czechoslovak resistance movement during the Second World War. A reconstruction of the action is taking place in Prague’s Libeň neighbourhood. Among the guests will be UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss.
In the evening a ceremonial gathering at the National Museum in Prague will see the opening of a special exhibition dedicated to the action, titled “We will never give up! (Nikdy se nevzdáme!). The event will be attended by Czech President Miloš Zeman and his Slovak counterpart Zuzana Čaputová.
Several other smaller events are taking place across the country to mark the occasion.
