Covid cases dropping, as is interest in tests and inoculation
The Czech Republic registered 13,461 new cases of Covid-19 on Monday, around 6,000 less than on the same day a week ago and the lowest tally on a workday since mid-January. The number of reinfections likewise dropped to around 2,500. The steady decline in cases has led to a steep drop in interest in both tests and inoculation. Many vaccination centers are closing as a result. Mass testing in companies and institutions ended last week and Czechs will now only need tests for travel reasons or admission to hospital.
In a related development, President Miloš Zeman on Monday signed into law an amendment to the Pandemic Law which gives the government greater powers to enforce new restrictions without the need for a state of emergency. The law is valid until November of this year.
