Household expenditures dropped by 2.2 percent in 2020

The average Czech household spent CZK 149,810 crowns per person last year, according to figures released by the Czech Statistics Office. Consumer spending, which includes spending on food, housing, holidays, health, transport or education, fell by 2.2 percent year-on-year.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, health expenditures increased by nearly nine percent on the previous year, while the cost of food grew by five percent. To the contrary, Czechs spent 17 percent less on restaurants and hotels and 12 percent less on leisure activities and culture. Education expenditures saw a drop of five percent in 2020.
