President appoints new army and police generals
In line with tradition, President Miloš Zeman appointed new army and police generals at Prague Castle on the occasion of the anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe on Saturday.
Among those raised to the highest rank is rector of the University of Defence Zuzana Kročová, who has become the second female general in the Czech Army, head of the country’s civilian intelligence agency Marek Šimandl and Fire Brigade deputy chief Daniel Miklós.
The president once again rejected the prime minister’s proposal to raise the head of the country’s Military Counter-Intelligence Service BIS, Michal Koudelka, to the rank of general. The government has proposed Mr. Koudelka’s promotion for the sixth year in succession.
