Former doubles Wimbledon champion Barbora Strýcová announces retirement

Czech tennis player Barbora Strýcová announced on Tuesday that she has decided to retire from professional tennis at the age of 35. The Wimbledon doubles champion is currently pregnant and is not planning to return to the game after she gives birth. However, she said that she would like to play one more game with her fans as a goodbye after her son is born, ideally in Wimbledon.

Barbora Strýcová is currently among the most successful Czech female tennis players, having won two WTA singles competitions and 31 doubles tournaments. The highlight of her career came in 2019, when she reached the semi-finals of the Wimbledon singles and won the grand slam in the women‘s doubles category with her Taiwanese partner Hsieh Su-wei. The victory catapulted her to become world number one in the women‘s doubles. She also won bronze at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro together with her doubles partner Lucie Šafářová.
