Czech PM, others speak to EU Council President about proportional vaccine distribution

The heads of government of the Czech Republic, Austria and four other countries have criticized the distribution of coronavirus vaccines within the European Union in talks with EU Council President Charles Michel. On Thursday, the distribution of vaccines will also be a topic at the EU summit.

Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz was the first of the leaders to speak publicly about the problem. He and his colleagues from the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Croatia, Latvia and Slovenia are calling for the vaccines to be distributed strictly according to relative population size.

According to the European Commission, however, some countries have chosen not to take their share of orders for more expensive vaccines such as that from Pfizer/BioNTech.
