The Czech prime minister, Petr Fiala, is due to meet his the prime of Israel, Benjamin Netanjahu, and the country’s president, Isaac Herzog, in Israel on Wednesday, a spokesperson for Czech government said on Tuesday.
Mr. Fiala is expected to discuss support for Israel, including coordination within the context of the European Council, which meets in Brussels on Thursday, the Czech News Agency reported.
Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer is due to fly to Israel with the Czech leader.

A collection of works by Czech Art Nouveau artist Alphonse Mucha has been sold. The collection of posters and oil paintings was put together by the former tennis player Ivan Lendl and has an estimated value of up to CZK 300 million.
The artworks have been bought by investment firm Wood & Company, which will offer them to investors. It plans to sell the collection again within three to five years and pass on the profits.

Czech President Petr Pavel says all expressions of anti-Semitism must be thoroughly condemned and stopped and that crimes should be prosecuted.
In a video posted on social media on Tuesday, the head of state said there had been a rise in threats and attacks against Jews in Europe and elsewhere in recent days.
Mr. Pavel said it was not possible to hide hatred behind claims of free speech or difference of outlook. He said Europe should lead by example in this area, saying it should have learned lessons from history.

The websites of the Czech Ministry of the Interior and police force were down for two hours on Tuesday morning after being hit by a cyber-attack. A spokesperson told the Czech News Agency that they had been the victims of a DDoS attack.
The news site iDnes.cz reported that the website of the Crimea Platform international summit, which was taking place in Prague, was also down. A spokesperson for the Czech lower house speaker said it was believed that Russia was behind the incident.

The Czech tennis player Karolína Muchová has had to withdraw from the season ending WTA Finals due to a wrist injury. The world number eight will also miss the final of the Billie Jean Cup international team competition in November.
Muchová, who is 27, has suffered from a sore wrist since the US Open in September, where she reached the semi-finals. She has not played since then but said only last week that she still hoped to take part in the WTA Finals.

The Czech minister of foreign affairs, Jan Lipavský, says his country will push for the European Union to begin accession talks with Ukraine this autumn.
In an interview for the Czech News Agency on Tuesday, he said that a European Commission assessment of Ukraine’s readiness to join the EU – which should be published on November 8 – would be crucial.
Mr. Lipavský said Ukraine was involved in a military conflict in which it was literally fighting to the death and for the right to choose its own geopolitical orientation, meaning membership of the EU and NATO.

Speaking to a conference in Prague, Ukraine’s president, Volodymr Zelensky, said Russia originally believed it could invade his country with impunity, but those illusions are now shattered. The Ukrainian leader made the comment in a video address to the Crimea Platform international summit, which this year was taking place in the Czech capital.
Mr. Zelensky told delegates that the international community must focus on preventing the circumvention of anti-Russian sanctions and also called for the continued supply of arms and ammunition to Ukraine.
He said the only thing that could satisfy his people was a complete withdrawal from Ukrainian territory by the Russians.

The number of socially marginalised areas in Czechia increased last year compared to the year before, the Czech News Agency reports. According to the latest social exclusion index compiled by the Agency for Social Inclusion, the number has increased from 175 to 191. The director of the agency, Martin Šimáček, said that this was expected given the consequences of covid, high inflation and rising energy costs.
The Agency for Social Inclusion has compiled this index annually since 2016. It is based on a number of factors, such as the proportion of people living in the area who are on benefits, not employed or studying, or whose house or apartment is in foreclosure.

Getting a divorce in Czechia could become simpler and faster from January 2025, the Czech News Agency reports. Proposed changes to the Civil Code regarding divorce proceedings include courts no longer having to enquire into the reasons for the marriage breaking down, combined divorce and child custody proceedings, and lower court fees for amicable splits requiring less litigation. The changes were presented in parliament by Ministry of Justice representatives and MP Eva Decroix from the Civic Democrat party.
