Although seven out of 10 Czechs are saving for retirement, almost two-thirds fear that their standard of living will decrease in their old age and 73 percent of people expect that they will have to reduce their expenses when they retire, according to the results of a Broker Consulting survey which the company revealed at a press conference on Wednesday.

On average, people in Czechia don't start saving for retirement until they hit their fifties, the survey revealed. Some 44 percent of survey respondents said they are going to increase their monthly savings in view of the new government pension system reforms. Almost 30 percent of people neither save nor invest for retirement, mainly due to a lack of funds.

Biologists have discovered a critically endangered species of bumblebee, Bombus confusus, in České Budějovice, the Czech News Agency reports. It is thought that the town's policy over the last five years of leaving some areas in parks and grassy areas to grow freely and be mown less often lent the right conditions for the bumblebee to thrive.

There are about 30 species of bumblebee in Czechia, with some species still being commonly found, while others have become endangered or completely extinct. In addition to Czechia, Bombus confusus has been found in the past in some other European countries such as Austria, France, Germany, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, and Spain.

The zoo in Děčín has reopened to visitors, despite seven of the nine-member group of macaques that escaped the premises on Monday evening still not having been recaptured. The zoo was closed on Tuesday due to the missing monkeys, which fled their enclosure after someone damaged the electric fence surrounding it.

The police have arrested a possible suspect, a 42-year-old man whom they located at a nearby restaurant about half an hour after they received the report of the monkey escape. He was subsequently detained, placed in a police cell, and tested for drugs. The test came out positive for THC.

Zoologists urge caution and have asked the public to report any sightings of the monkeys to the zoo.

The Society for the Slav Epic in Prague has called on the city’s mayor, Bohuslav Svoboda, not to place the famous cycle of Alfons Mucha’s paintings in the Savarin Palace near Wenceslas Square, which is being renovated.

The city is negotiating placing the cycle in the building with the painter's heir John Mucha, with a view to ending a dispute over its ownership.

One of the founders of the association, the painter’s granddaughter Jarmila Mucha Plocková, said earlier that she would challenge the decision in court.

A troop of macaques escaped from the zoo in Děčín on Monday evening after an intruder damaged an electric fence at one of the enclosures. Two of the seven monkeys have already been captured by the zoo keepers, but the rest are still on the loose.

According to the zoo spokeswoman, it is possible that the escaped monkeys will return to the compound on their own, therefore the zoo has been temporarily closed to visitors.

She has also warned the public not to approach or attempt to capture the monkeys, as they could be dangerous, especially when under stress.
