The Czech hockey Hall of Fame, which was unexpectedly closed at the end of May, will reopen in Prague’s Palladium shopping centre next year, president of the hockey federation Alois Hadamczik said in an interview for CNN Prima News on Wednesday.

The stone Hall of Fame, which was part of the Galerie Harfa shopping mall, located in the immediate vicinity of Prague's O2 arena, closed abruptly on May 29 after eight years due to financial issues.

The new Hall of Fame is scheduled to open before next year's World Championships, due to take place in May. According to Mr. Hadamczik, the Czech Hockey Federation will save CZK 150 million by the move.

Around 80 people gathered in Prague's Malostranské náměstí on Tuesday to protest against the Czech-US defence treaty known by the acronym DCA (Defence Cooperation Agreement). Participation in the demonstration was below expectations. Czech news site Deník N reports that 1,000 people were expected to attend.

Tomio Okamura was present at the protest and said that his Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) party is the only political party that is saying no to the idea of having US military bases on Czech territory. He accused the current government of prime minister Petr Fiala of violating the sovereignty of Czechia.

In the upcoming vote on the defence treaty, all SPD MPs will vote against the treaty. Okamura said that he regrets the position of ANO, Andrej Babiš's party, the majority of whose MPs will vote in favour despite ANO initally being sceptical about the agreement.

President Petr Pavel attended a memorial gathering on Tuesday in Prague's Újezd to honour the victims of the former communist regime who were imprisoned and executed for political reasons. He said at the event that he regrets his ignorance of the systemic failures of the regime before 1989, considering them at the time to be individual mistakes, and that he respects all those who were able to clearly see the totalitarian regime for what it was and had the courage to stand up to it.

Lawyer and politician Milada Horáková, who was sentenced to death and executed by the state in a 1950 political show trial, was among those commemorated in several places around Czechia on Tuesday as the country marked the annual Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Communist Regime. June 27 marks 73 years since the execution of Horáková, lawyer Oldřich Pecl, former police guard Jan Buchal and journalist Závis Kalandra.
