The Czech hockey players David Pastrňák and David Krejčí have been voted to be part of the Boston Bruins All-Centennial Team, marking the100th anniversary of the club’s founding.
The All-Centennial Team is comprised of the most legendary players in franchise history as voted upon by an independent committee of journalists and media members, historians and members of the hockey community.
The 20-player roster was selected from the “Historic 100 list” and features 12 forwards, 6 defensemen and 2 goaltenders, including legends Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito.

Czechs have raised over CZK 800,000 to help Israel in the wake of last weekend’s deadly Hamas-led terrorist attacks, according to the Czech branch of the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem, which organizes the collection. All contributions will be directed to the reconstruction of the Kibbutz Be'eri, where around 100 residents were killed.
According to earlier reports by Czech Television, the Federation of Jewish Communities in Czechia is also planning to organize a public collection to help Israel.

Some 498 cases of tuberculosis were discovered in Czechia last year, according to the freshly released data by the Institute of Health Information and Statistics. Although the figure represents a slight increase on the previous year, it is still five times lower than in 2000.
The data also suggest that foreigners were responsible for more than a third 20 of TB cases detected in Czechia in 2022, with Ukrainians accounting for 18 percent.
Universal vaccination of newborns against TB has been carried out in Czechia until 2010. Since 2010, vaccinations have only been given to children at risk of exposure to the disease.

Prague’s Museum of Decorative Arts will present a new collection of Cubist artefacts at the House of the Black Mother of God. The objects, which were acquired last year from the Foundation of Czech Cubism, will go on display on October 19.
The collection consists of 14 furniture sets as well as sets of ceramic, metal and glass items. It includes works by the most important representatives of Cubism - Vlastislav Hofman, Josef Gočár and Pavel Janák.

Temperature records for September 13 were set at around half of Czech weather stations keeping track of such data for at least 30 years, the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute has informed.
The highest temperature for that day was registered in Kuchařovice in South Moravia, where it reached 27.9 degrees Celsius. The unseasonably warm weather is expected to end on Sunday, with day temperatures not exceeding 15 degrees Celsius.

ANO party leader Andrej Babiš has apologised to former finance minister Miroslav Kalousek for a statement made in the Czech lower house five years ago when he accused him of stealing from the Defence Ministry and killing people with his purchase of military parachutes. Speaking at Friday's plenary session of parliament, Mr. Babiš said that he apologised to Mr. Kalousek for his statements made on 11 July, 2018. In a ruling made last month, the former prime minister had been ordered by the Supreme Court to apologise both in writing and orally during a parliamentary session to his one-time political rival, following a libel suit brought against Mr. Babiš by Mr. Kalousek.
Mr. Babiš had previously stated that he would challenge the verdict in the Constitutional Court, but later said that although he did not agree with the court's ruling, he would respect it. At today's parliamentary session, he said that he had "always respected court judgements and the principles of the democratic rule of law."
Mr Babiš's offending comments back in 2018 referred to Mr. Kalousek's tenure as deputy minister of defence and to several controversial contracts from that time, including the purchase of VTP-100 parachutes. In 1997, a soldier was fatally injured when his parachute failed to open.

Saturday should be overcast with rain throughout most of the day. However, despite the rain, it is predicted to be the last temperate day for a while, with daytime temperatures of up to 20 degrees Celsius. Over the following days, temperatures are expected to drop to around 10 degrees Celsius.

The lower house of the Czech parliament has approved the government's proposed austerity package by 108 votes for to 86 against. The opposition is threatening to take the matter to the Constitutional Court.
The measures have been fiercely contested by the opposition from the beginning, with a debate over the package still taking place on Wednesday afternoon during the bill's third reading.
According to the coalition government, the austerity package, which includes an overhaul of the pension system, will considerably help reduce the state budget deficit.

The billionaire businessman René Matera, founder of the Promet Group and one of the two owners of the Tatra Trucks company, passed away on Thursday at the age of 60 following a long battle with a serious illness, the Czech edition of Forbes reported on Friday. He had already stopped actively participating in the management of his 4,200-people-strong company in recent months due to his ailing health and had left the board of directors a year ago, handing the reins over to his daughter Denisa and son Radim.
René Matera's meteoric rise in the business world began in the early 1990s when he started selling blast-furnace slag. He gradually built his company up into a multibillion-dollar group which dealt in everything from iron to engineering and automobiles. He had an estimated net worth of CZK 11.6 billion at the time of his death.
