More young children in hospital with respiratory infections

Hospitals are reporting an increased number of child patients with respiratory viral infections. Infants and toddlers are reported to be particularly at risk.

The State Health Institute says these hospitalizations are not linked to the growing number of Covid patients, although the Delta mutation has been spreading among children as well and hospitals report admitting child patients with Covid.

Doctors are urging people to get vaccinated against the flu, warning that immunity is generally  lower in the wake of the Covid lockdowns. There were practically zero cases of flu in the country last year.
