Mayors and Independents to look into potential sponsorship irregularities

The leader of the Mayors and Independents coalition party Vít Rakušan has said his party is looking into a financial contribution from an allegedly dodgy sponsor and if it finds any irregularity it will return the money immediately. The possibility that the now ruling party accepted money from shady companies in Cyprus, where one of the donors faces criminal charges elicited a storm of criticism from the opposition benches during Thursday’s vote of confidence in the new government. Mr. Rakušan, who is serving as interior minister and deputy prime minister in the new administration,  said his party had been unaware of any problematic sponsors. The news site iDnes wrote that the Mayors and Independents had received three million crowns from Czech companies based in Cyprus, while Seznam wrote that one of the party's sponsors is being prosecuted.
