National Reference Laboratory confirms first case of Omicron on Czech territory

The National Reference Laboratory has confirmed beyond doubt the first case of the African strain Omicron on Czech territory. Hygiene officers are now tracing the contacts of the woman from Liberec who last week tested positive for the virus shortly after returning from a holiday trip to Namibia.

According to the chief hygiene office Pavla Svrčinová the woman travelled with eight other Czechs. Four of them were from Prague, the others from Central Bohemia and the Olomouc region.

The nine-member group returned to the Czech Republic via the Republic of South Africa. All are in self-isolation, awaiting the results of tests.
