Health Minister: no need to test for Covid-19 among schoolchildren

Minister of Health Jan Blatný said on Sunday that he sees no need for first and second graders returning to school as of Wednesday to be tested for Covid-19, but he could imagine comprehensive testing for their teachers.

Speaking during a Czech Television debate programme, he said that unlike when schools reopened in the spring, classes will not be divided into smaller groups. However, students must wear facemasks and not mingle with other classes.

Meanwhile, Medical Chamber chairman Milan Kubek is pushing for both children and teachers to be tested every Monday using antigen rather than PCR tests, which are faster although less reliable.
