Government approves compensation bonus for self-employed

Self-employed entrepreneurs in the Czech Republic who had to suspend their businesses because of the government restrictions taken to curb the spread of the coronavirus epidemic are entitled to receive financial compensation.

The compensation bonus amounts to CZK 500 per day, the Czech government decided on Friday evening. The aid measure still needs to be approved by Parliament. According to the cabinet's estimates, some 250,000 self-employed could be entitled to receive the bonus.

A three-week partial lockdown has been in place in the Czech Republic since Wednesday, shutting schools, restaurants and bars as well as cultural and sports facilities.
