Energy experts: Government should focus on alternative energy sources, not just nuclear power

The ongoing discussion surrounding the expansion of the Dukovany nuclear power plant often blocks debate on the wider challenges within the Czech energy sector, according to a survey of experts conducted by the Czech News Agency.

The President of the Czech Chamber of Commerce Vladimír Dlouhý.said that it is necessary to update the state energy strategy as well as current energy legislation, making them more practical. However, he also praised the setting up of the Coal Commission, which is leading the Czech diversification from coal.

The head of the Czech Modern Energy Union, Martin Sedlák, said that the current government has been focusing mainly on nuclear power at the detriment of looking into alternative energy sources. He said that any new government should seriously consider setting up the position of a government expert for the green economy.
