Czech textiles firm Moira may supply underwear for astronauts

The textile company Strakonice Moira, which produces functional underwear, may supply astronauts in the coming years. Moira participated in the Hydronaut programme of technologies related to underwater stays, which simulates the coexistence of a crew in space, including real space missions.

Hydronaut was founded in 2007 by diver and designer Matyáš Šanda. This year, two Czech divers spent over 180 hours in a submerged laboratory in a flooded quarry. Moira supplied them with clothing.

This autumn, the Hydronaut project entered the European Space Agency’s “business incubator” in Prague. Moira director Marcela Vlčková said the firm hopes to participate in other space-related research projects in the years 2022 to 2023.
