Czech minister says Volkswagen has delayed decision on gigafactory location

Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček said on Monday that Germany’s Volkswagen Group has delayed a decision until mid-2022 on where to build a new electric car battery plant gigafactory.

The Czech Republic, home to Volkswagen Group’s Škoda Auto, is among the candidates. A possible site is the former brown coal-fired power plant Prunerov 1 owned by power utility ČEZ.

Havlíček and ČEZ signed a memorandum on the support of such a project this summer.
