Czech Foreign Ministry calls for end to violence in Kazakhstan
The Czech Foreign Ministry has appealed for an end to the violence in Kazakhstan calling on the parties involved to resolve the situation with respect for the law and human rights.
According to the ministry, there are currently about 30 Czech citizens in the country. The Czech Embassy in Nur-Sultan says it has no information indicating that they could be at risk.
The unrest in Kazakhstan erupted over the weekend in the city of Zhanaozen, following a sharp rise in the price of LPG. Demonstrations subsequently spread to other cities, leading to the dismissal of the government by President Kasym-Zomart Tokayev.
