Czech Army chief: Ukraine crisis shows world will not be safe

The head of the Czech Army says the Czech Republic cannot behave as if the crisis in Ukraine does not concern it. The chief of the General Staff, Aleš Opata, said at a meeting of top brass on Tuesday that events in Ukraine indicate that the world is not going to be a safe place in the coming period.

The military leader said that the situation showed that the Czech Republic needed NATO, which was unhappy with the country’s failure to purchase tracked armoured fighting vehicles.
