Commercial TV Nova distances itself from Janeček’s criticism of anti-Covid measures

Commercial TV Nova, which aired a live broadcast of the Czech Nightingale music awards on Friday evening, has distanced itself from statements by the event’s chief sponsor, billionaire Karel Janeček.

In the closing ceremony, Janeček attacked the government's anti-Covid measures, which he said had a major negative impact on the cultural sphere and had divided Czech society. He urged parents not to get their children vaccinated against an infection that he said did not present a health hazard for them.

TV Nova said that the gala show had been organized by an external company that was responsible for its content and quality. However, the station said it would consider measures to prevent such “excesses” in the future.
