Christmas tree erected on Old Town Sq. but no lighting ceremony planned

The traditional Christmas tree has been erected on Prague’s Old Town Square after arriving in the middle of Monday night. The spruce – which originated in Kammený přívoz in Central Bohemia – will be decorated in the coming days before being lit up in the national colours at the weekend.

However, in view of the Covid-19 situation the traditional lighting ceremony will not take place this year. The Prague authorities say they will post a video of the event online.

Traditional Christmas markets have also been cancelled in view of the public health situation.
