Chancellor: Zeman will convene meeting of new chamber on Nov 8

President Miloš Zeman will convene the inaugural meeting of the new Chamber of Deputies on November 8. The news was made public by the outgoing speaker of the house, Radek Vondráček, who had earlier spoken with Mr. Zeman’s chancellor, Vratislav Mynář. Freshly elected MPs would have to meet on that date in any case, as it will be 30 days after elections.

The president is currently in hospital with an unspecified chronic illness.

If he is unable to convene the first meeting of the new lower house that task would fall to Mr. Vondráček.

Five parties opposed to the current prime minister, Andrej Babiš, have enough seats to form a majority.
